Technical Consultant for EO Operational Data Processors (2 positions) (19-13-031)

Job Description

We are looking for a team of (2) technical consultants, specializing in EO Operational Data Processors. You will support monitoring the procurement of Operational processors for EUMETSAT's Polar System -Second Generation (EPS-SG) programme. Your overall responsibilities will include:

  • Monitor the development and testing of EPS-SG Operational Processors providing relevant support to the EUMETSAT Technical Officer
  • Contribute to reviewing the EPS-SG Processing Specifications, and associated Test Data
  • Contribute to Operational Processors related meetings

Each task is described in further detail below:

  • Follow the development and testing of EPS-SG Operational processors
    • Attend and contribute to meetings (e.g. KO, WS, KP, TRR, TRB) and reviews (e.g. DR, PAR) associated to the development lifecycle of the Operational Processors.
    • Witness as an observer any testing activities involving the Operational Processors (e.g. FAT and OSAT).
    • Witness as an observer any integration activities involving the Operational Processors.
    • Contribute to following up and closing of Actions, Open Points, and Review Item Discrepancies (RIDs, or in other words comments) raised during the above-mentioned activities.
  • Contribute to review of EPS-SG Processing Specifications, and associated Test Data
    • EPS-SG Processing Specifications
    • EPS-SG Test Data
    • EPS-SG Calibration and Validation plan
    • Assessment of impact of new Processing Specification on the Operational Processors
  • Contribute to Operational Processors related meetings
    • Operational Processors Progress Meetings
    • EPS-SG PDP Team meetings
    • EPS-SG PDAP Team meetings
    • other meetings, as necessary and as requested by EUMETSAT

Required Skills and Experience

  • A strong background in Meteorological and/or Earth Observation ground segment systems (data acquisition and processing part/segments preferably with multi-programme elements/components) design, in particular in the area of Operational Data Processors.
  • A University degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline (e.g. Computer Science and/or Software Engineering, Atmospheric Physics, Remote Sensing) or comparable qualifications in an operational Data Processing field, with more than 10 years’ experience in related domains.
  • More than 3 years' experience in the following mandatory areas:
    • Procurement activities (e.g. interfacing with industrial contractors), preferably in the field of payload data ground processing
    • Design, Verification and Validation of Meteorological and/or Earth Observation Operational Processors
  • Additionally, you shall possess:
  • Fluency in spoken and written English
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks under a tight schedule
  • Ability to fulfil assigned tasks without supervision
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Practical knowledge of Big Data technologies, including in particular Kafka and Storm
