Last week the 15th edition of the biennially conference on Space Operations took place in Marseille (France). This technical forum addresses state-of-the-art concepts, processes and tools in the area of space mission operations and ground systems and it attracts professionals and academia from all over the world.
Once more, Solenix was present in this conference with the participation of three of our colleagues, who presented the output of their work in different sessions of the event.
Martin Tykal presented an E-Poster titled “The Power of Open-Source Tools for Satellite and Constellation Monitoring”, which showcased some of the work of our Engineering Team, leveraging the use of open-source software to achieve intuitive, but at the same time, informative dashboards for operations.
Martin also gave a presentation in the Data Analytics and Automation Session on the topic “Increased Awareness through Highly Integrated and Collaborative Operation Logbooks”. He presented some of the concepts we are exploring to make operation logbooks not only a passive tracing tool, but an active element in spacecraft monitoring, offering contextual information and support to operations.
Our colleague Nicola Policella gave a presentation titled “AI Support for future mission operations: The case of BepiColombo On-board Memory Management”, where he presented the AI tools and algorithms designed for the mission in order to optimise the on-board science data storage and downlink to minimise latency and avoid overruns.
Finally, Nicolas Faerber also gave a presentation in the ground Segment Engineering session. He presented “A Grammar-based Timeline for Increasing Fleet Situational Awareness”, which describes the experience of the Cluster-II Flight Control Team developing a tool to increase the fleet situational awareness.
Besides the presentations and sessions on mission operations and ground segment engineering, our colleagues participated in several social events, including a contested Petanque Tournament, which showed the skill and ability of the conference participants.
It was an intense week of presentations and exchange of knowledge, which led to fruitful discussions and more contacts in our network. We are already looking forward to the next edition in Cape Town (South Africa).
