29 March 2019
On 28 March, Solenix gave 11 young girls the opportunity to have a closer look at the everyday life of a software engineering company.
This is the first time that we participate in Girls’ Day and organise a full day of presentations and interactive activities for secondary school girls. Girls’ Day - “Future Prospects for Girls” is an annual event taking place in Germany and supported by the Bundesministerium für Familie, Senioren, Frauen und Jugend and the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung, with the aim of exposing young girls to professions in technical fields.
The girls had the opportunity to learn about our business and its main processes (including what contracts are for!), before receiving an introduction to space systems and getting their hands dirty in a fun programming session. Guided by a few of our colleagues, the girls were split into three teams and programmed a Lego Mindstorms rover to follow a tricky winding road, which simulated an autonomous Mars Rover.
The day was a complete success for both girls and Solenix and we are already looking forward to receiving their job applications in a few years’ time!
