April and May have been very busy months for our Solenix team in Italy in support of the ESA exhibitions at two recent and major Earth Observation events.
The
EGU Assembly 2019, the largest geosciences meeting in Europe, was held in Vienna, Austria from 7 to 12 April and Solenix was present in support of the ESA stand, namely guiding visitors through demos of the Virtual Reality installation of the
ESRIN Φ-lab. The event served as a trial for what was coming afterwards, the main event of the year...
...Enter the Living Planet Symposium 2019 (LPS 19). The Living Planet Symposium is the largest Earth Observation conference worldwide and is organised every three years. The 2019 edition was held in Milan, in Italy, from 13 to 17 May and it certainly did not fail to meet expectations. Solenix was once again heavily involved supporting to the fantastic ESA stand, this time not only through the evolved Φ-lab Virtual Reality installation but also on several other aspects of the event.
In fact, Alessandro, Itziar and Paulo supported the Data Access and EO For Society booths of the ESA stand, making themselves available to answer questions and demo the different Thematic Exploitation Platforms (TEPs). In parallel, they supported several of the Agora sessions, a new concept introduced especially for LPS 19, such as the one on "Digital Platform Economy and Science Use", the one on "EO for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) indicators" or the one on "EO for the Energy production sector".
Paulo also presented a poster describing the ongoing work supporting ESA in moving "Towards a Heritage Missions Valorization Environment using Datacube technology", during the Wednesday evening Poster session, while Alessandro had another chance to meet members of the organising committee of FOSS4G 2019, which will happen in Bucharest, Romania at the end of August. Alessandro is an ambassador for the event and he will be a member of the jury of the
EO Data Challenge.
Finally, due to its involvement in previous and ongoing OGC Testbed activities (13 through to 15), Solenix was also invited and attended the Agora session "Introduction and Open Discussion about EO Exploitation Platform Common Architecture", where several stakeholders from institutions and industry initiated a path to support ESA in establishing a Common Architecture and a Reference Implementation for Exploitation Platforms in Europe.
And now that the events are over and very nice memories and images have been recorded, it is time to start preparing the next ones!
