Last week our colleague Itziar Alonso went to Morocco to train experts from 25 African countries in cloud computing, as part of an event organised by the European Space Agency (ESA), the African Union Commission, the Joint Research Centre and EUMETSAT.
Itziar is one of our colleagues supporting the activities of the European Space Agency with her expertise in the area of Earth Observation (EO). The training course focused on the application of cloud computing on EO services in Africa, showing how EO and cloud computing can be plugged-in to produce value-added solutions. It aimed to equip African institutions with the tools to obtain end-user-oriented EO services that are easily scalable, accurate and useful. Through several hands-on exercises the participants got acquainted with a range of technological cloud computing solutions and digital analytical tools in different EO application contexts.
The training was held from the 11th to the 15th of November in Rabat, Morocco, at the facilities of the regional institution for capacity building (CRASTE-LF) and Mohammed V University of Rabat. More information on the event is available here.
