We are looking for a Cloud Platform and Digital Innovation Support engineer to join a team of multidisciplinary consultants working close to the premises of our customer, the European Space Agency, in Frascati, Italy. As a member of this team, you will provide engineering support to EO platform related activities. You will have the chance to supervise the development of EO cloud exploitation platform projects applied to Earth Observation and will be exposed to leading technologies in Earth Observation from Space, continuously developing and maintaining your own expertise. You will also be in direct contact with European Industry and be involved in the International Cooperation context. Depending on your profile and interest, there will be opportunities to apply your skills, contributing to internal and customer engineering projects.
• Review and technical evaluation of proposals and project deliverables
• Discuss project goals, requirements or methodologies with colleagues or team members
• Provision of technical specifications, inputs for new projects and contribution to technical standardisation specifications
• Follow up of daily activities and implementation of technical actions resulting from progress meetings
• Definition of best practices and standards to be applied across projects
• Technical support to ESA-organised events and demonstrations
• Provision of technical input for contributions to conferences, workshops and communications
• Technical support in liaison with external bodies (eg GEO, CEOS, OGC)
• Integration support across different projects into the larger EO ecosystem
• Technical assessment of improvement opportunities across projects
• Master degree (or equivalent) in a relevant technical or scientific discipline (e.g. computer science,
geoinformatics or a technical field that provides similar competences)
• 3-5 years of experience in the area of Cloud infrastructures and technologies, as well as big data management, services, applications and formats, especially applied to EO, GIS, image processing (QGis, ArcGis, GeoJSON, Jupyter notebooks, training)
• Experience with providing engineering support, training and outreach
• Fluent in spoken and written English. Knowledge of other languages is a positive asset
• Proactivity, autonomy, problem identification and solving attitude. Team player.
• Experience in writing scientific and technical documentation, and in delivering technical presentations
• Experience with programming (python) for technical applications (Web, backend…)
• Knowledge of European EO Infrastructures (CDSE, DIAS, exploitation platforms…)
• Knowledge of Earth Observation context
Work Location: This position is mostly on-site at ESA/ESRIN, with the possibility of remote work some days per week.
