14 March 2017
Beautiful Florence welcomed the 2017 edition of the "Heritage for Planet Earth" conference, organized by the Romualdo Del Bianco Foundation and dedicated to the themes of Smart Travel, Smart Architecture, Heritage and Smart Cities.
Smart Cities are one of the applications to which 3D virtual globe technology like ESA-NASA WebWorldWind can contribute, especially when paired with satellite-based Earth Observation data. Solenix presented at the conference, together with ESA and NASA WebWorldWind managers and showed the audience how WebWorldWind and, in particular, its WMTS implementation can be used to leverage satellite-based EO data to build necessary tools for urban management and planning, vegetation monitoring, burn scar mapping, etc..
Since 2015, Solenix is actively collaborating with ESA and NASA to bring WebWorldWind, the free and open-source 3D virtual globe technology, forward. The collaboration has produced extraordinary results and Solenix is looking forward to continuing this fruitful cooperation for many more years to come!
