This week was the inauguration of the “Solenix Talks”, a new cycle of presentations, workshops and discussions about Solenix activities.

The “Solenix Talks” are a platform for all Solenix colleagues to present interesting topics and to share their knowledge with the team. The first talk was organised by the Products Division and presented an overview and a hands-on demo of our products:


New in Spring 4 - Solenix Workshop03 May 2016

Our April workshop has brought us the last news on the Spring Framework. At Solenix we make extensive use of it in many of our projects. For those not familiar with it, Spring is an application framework that provides comprehensive infrastructure support for developing Java applications.

ESA Proba-V App developed by Solenix-led Consortium15 April 2016

Solenix’s consortium for Software Prototyping and Mobile App Development at ESRIN recently published the ESA Proba-V App, for Android and iOS devices.

The App allows users to obtain information about the vegetation status around a location, as derived from the NDVI products of ESA's Proba-V satellite. The current version uses 10-day products, of 1Km resolution, but future upgrades of the App will use 300m and even 100m resolution data.

Last week we attended the BiDS'16 conference: three days packed with presentations, demos and posters organised around three main topics: data lifecycle, infrastructures and services for big data and big data scenarios. The main goal of the conference was to bring together all stakeholders working with big data in the space domain and foster innovation and networking across organisations and countries in Europe.



Is It a Topic or a Queue?19 February 2016

At Solenix, we use message queue technologies in various projects and our implementation of choice is Apache ActiveMQ. The experience we gathered with the Java Message Service (JMS) in general and ActiveMQ in particular was put together and presented to the entire software engineering team during a technical workshop.

ESA Sentinel iOS Application Developed by Solenix-led Consortium08 December 2015

Solenix’s consortium for Software Prototyping and Mobile App Development at ESRIN developed the recently published ESA Sentinel iOS application.

The application is a gateway to knowing the Sentinel satellites. It lets you track the satellites in real-time, discover their key components, read the latest news and learn more about their products.

Today’s update of the application includes important new features:


Hibernate and JPA - Solenix Workshop30 September 2015

Last week we had a workshop covering the Hibernate framework as implementation of the Java Persistence API.

Hibernate is a powerful framework and great tool to manage complex data in our applications and the specific needs for different database implementations (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle and many others). Particularly for common data operations this frees our developers from boilerplate code and lets us focus on the actual logic.
